What is the fee for PAL?

The registration fee for each task—new or retake—is $107.

Candidates will register by task.

How do I register for PAL?

Candidates must register on this website. Go to the Candidates/Registration and Submission page for more information.

Why does the PAL program require my Social Security number?

States require a Social Security number for score reporting and/or licensure purposes. Pearson does not require your Social Security number for our own purposes, but will submit it to state agencies with your test results. Failure to provide your Social Security number may result in incomplete information or no information being transmitted to your state, district, and/or your college or university.

I previously registered and submitted my PAL Tasks, but one or more of my tasks did not meet the minimum threshold score. What can I do?

Please review the Retake Guidelines on the Retaking PAL page of this website.

All tasks are required to meet the minimum threshold score and the total passing score of 2.75; please see the December 2015 memolink opens in a new window from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Commissioner.

Please review the Candidate Assessment Handbook, available on this website. Your new task submissions will need to align to the updated Handbook.

What are the Pearson ePortfolio system requirements?

Refer to the Candidate Guide to Using the Pearson ePortfolio System and additional resources available on this site.

Is there a size limit on file uploads?

We recommend file sizes between 200 and 300 MB; the maximum size that the system accepts is 500 MB. There is no limit on the number of megabytes (MB) uploaded for an entire task. A 500 MB limit was set to encourage the compression of large videos before candidates attempt an upload. The success of an upload through any application depends heavily on the type of network, the file size, and the network capacity at upload time.

I'm unable to upload a file (e.g., video file, report). What should I do?

It is important to understand that various aspects of the Pearson ePortfolio system will not work as intended if any of your system components are not up-to-date. Please refer to the minimum system requirements provided on this website. If you continue to experience an error when uploading files, it is recommended that you update your internet browser, as well as your Adobe Reader and Adobe Flash plug-ins, to ensure you are running the latest version of all components.

Please note that many errors experienced when uploading a document may be resolved by saving the document as a PDF file before uploading. There are various ways to save a document as a PDF. Additional instructions can be found on the Candidates/Resources section of this website. For Mac users, there is a Tips for Mac Users document available on this website.

Frequently asked questions about video uploads, as well as additional troubleshooting tips when using the Pearson ePortfolio system, can be found in the Candidates/Resources section of this website.
